Total Iron (B104)

Approximately 30% of the population are mildly anemic. Optimal iron levels are associated with healthy mitochondrial and peroxisomal function as well as a decreased risk of cancer. All biochemical processes that use molecular oxygen such as mitochondrial and peroxisomal fatty acid β-oxidation, the mitochondria electron transport chain, transportation of oxygen in the blood via hemoglobin, etc. all require iron. Iron deficiency is one of the most prevalent micronutrient deficiencies.
