A Personal Message from Dr. Dayan Goodenowe to Saskatchewan Residents Living with ALS

Dear Saskatchewan ALS Residents,

Confusion. Distrust. Division. These are not the tools of health or healing – they fracture trust when unity is needed most. Recent media stories and inflammatory public statements from individuals such as Denis Simard of the ALS Society of Saskatchewan and Jared Clarke, NDP opposition critic for rural and remote health, have fostered unnecessary division within our community.

Who should decide what is best for your health journey – those who know you, or those speaking on your behalf without consent? Why sow division among people facing one of life’s most difficult challenges?

The CBC’s June 13 story, reported by Geoff Leo, was based on selective framing that misrepresented key facts. That same narrative was used to fuel the June 20 press conference – a coordinated attempt to silence innovative approaches to restoring health.

To understand how this narrative was constructed, I encourage you to watch my full recorded interview with Geoff Leo, filmed on June 9 – prior to the publication of the CBC story. The differences may speak for themselves.

On June 25, I was interviewed by journalist Tamara Ugolini, where I addressed these concerns directly – including what I believe to be a troubling breach of journalistic integrity.

This is not a baseless accusation. The interview was published June 28, 2025, and can be viewed here: Rebel News Interview

The ALS community of Saskatchewan deserves truth, transparency, and options – not interference. Neither you nor I asked for this conflict. Like many of you, I was focused on helping people – not politics.

The Dr. Goodenowe ALS Saskatchewan Challenge is a response – not in anger, but in hope.

I am not here to argue or escalate. ALS doesn’t care about politics – and our path to potential progress needs focus, not distraction

What I am offering is simple: our full suite of services – completely free – to any Saskatchewan resident diagnosed with ALS who wishes to participate.

In return, I ask only your willingness to engage – not just for yourself, but for others. Together, your experience can help inform and uplift future ALS patients.

Join me on July 30, 2025, for a special virtual event to learn more about the Dr. Goodenowe ALS Saskatchewan Challenge, ask questions, and decide for yourself.

Is there a cure for ALS?

No.

Is a cure likely in the near future?

Not at this time.

Why?

The root biochemical dysfunction in ALS involves impaired regulation of D-serine due to reduced activity of the enzyme D-amino acid oxidase. This contributes to excitotoxicity — a known cause of motor neuron damage.

What do most drugs target?

Most existing or experimental ALS drugs attempt to slow progression by targeting secondary effects. None address the core biochemical issue.

How is our approach different?

Our focus is not on treating the disease itself, but on supporting the body’s core systems to function despite ALS. The goal is to create an environment where the body can sustain and potentially rebuild itself.

Is it guaranteed?

No. But we believe this is the most hopeful, science-grounded pathway currently available.

Improving health is not a miracle. It is measurable biochemistry. The hard part is showing up. Let’s take the next step – together.

Sincerely,
Dr. Dayan Goodenowe
